Current Move of God

Recently God is leading both my wife and I to do something new.

During our time of fervant prayer for this year, God confirmed to raise young leaders for Japan. My son, Samuel is now 15. We homeschooled him since he was 5th grade. We are following ACE curriculum for the teaching. He will be in his 9th grade this year.

Young people in Japan go through many difficult challenges. Their 1st big challenge is to pass the entrance exam for thier high school. Each high school has rank of its own. Each area has the best high school that people are aware of. The second best school, and down the line, the worst school. People identify themselves with the rank. That is one of the reason why the parents were very anxious about their children’s future. However, better school does not make them happy. Yes it will boost thier pride. But prideful students are not the happiest bums.

Japanese society is structured around labeling sub-sections of social structure. Believe it or not, this is true to every part of society. They are hopeless in the way it presents. They do not agree with this system. But they can not escape from the pressures from the society. They can not be an outsider alone. So, they decide to follow the way just the society proceeds.

However, our challenge is to present the alternatives for living. 1st alternative is to create their own job or being self-employeed. Some of our neighbors said that Japanese education only produces good employees, but never entreprenures. I think that statement says the truth. They are good people, but without initiatives. They tend to go with the flow. Never wanting to be someone outstanding.

What we are doing in Japan?

The ministry our family is involved in is in the following areas:

1. Basically the Lord spoke to us to do business and missions at the same time as Apostle Paul did in his ministry for the gentiles.

It was 1996 when I went to Obihiro city for 3 days seminars at one of the church. At that time, I was living in Sapporo. As I was on the train to Obihiro from Sapporo, I was meditating and contemplating about what God is leading my life to. It was a rather sudden flashing thought about doing missions with business, or business with a mission. From that moment on, my thought was occupied with business and missions.

While I was in pastoral training in S. California with Calvary Chapel, Costa Mesa at School of Ministry (SOM), my thought and direction were most of the time for the missions and business.

Currently we are teaching English and Korean to local people. When there are needs in translation, we do translation work for our local businesses. Japanese, English, Korean, and Chinese are what we can handle.

We also provide hosting services and IT services with making web sites with content management system (CMS), learning management system (LMS), Real Estate Management System (REMS), etc. They are all done from the open source resources.

Above business supply our needs and provides wealth of contacts to people we minister to. Ministry is nothing but to serve the people by meeting their needs.

2. Two tools we have for missions: Gospel House and AMS Co. Ltd.

Gospel House is a church planting tool and people. We focus on unchurched areas in all Japan. Currently we have started two local churches in Makubestu town and Urahoro town. Those two towns were unchurched towns in Hokkaido. Now they are not any more since we are there to minister people around us. We are just normal people living there. But our lives are lead by God each day. We try our best to listen to what God says to us each day and obey what He directs us everyday.

AMS Co. Ltd. is a company we set up for tax purpose and for the credibility as a business in our society. As I have mentioned before, AMS Co. Ltd. has two business sections: Liguistics related business and IT related business. These two create many contacts with people in the society in a very natural way. There is no tension of preaching or preached to. We are just a normal people who meet people in a normal business setting. It is the very nice setting where we can meet people. We try to meet their needs whether it is for business or just a personal help. It is all considered as our service to the Lord.
